Ingabire is bad news for Rwanda says Rwandan Foreign Affairs Minister Mushikiwabo

Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza, Chair FDU.

Victoire Ingabire.
“She seems to be a concern everywhere but not in Rwanda. I don’t see too many of our citizens worrying about her rights.” says Rwandan governement spokesperson Louise Mushikiwabo.

Kigali – The elections will be happening on Monday as Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo continues a diplomatic and media offensive in London – with her latest target being opposition politician Ingabire Victoire.

With British firm Racepoint PR working out all the details on which media she will talk to and what she could say there, Louise Mushikiwabo this time was blunt when answering The Independent about Ingabire’s allegations this week. Ingabire has called the elections a sham.

“She is a criminal”, said Ms Mushikiwabo. “She is bad news, she is connected to the FDLR and terrorist groups and she has a criminal history. She is not under house arrest, she has only been told not to leave the country.”

Ms Mushikiwabo, in London ahead of Monday’s poll, accused the international media of “hype” about the plight of politicians and journalists critical of the government. The government has denied any involvement in the recent murders of figures critical of the government and Ms Mushikiwabo said there was a “deliberate attempt” to depict Rwanda in a negative light.

The President Paul Kagame enjoyed immense popularity but “certain people have an axe to grind” with him. “He is very demanding and very strict and some cannot stand the scrutiny and level of accountability that he demands,” she said.

She accused Ms Ingabire of being an “opportunist” who had lived outside of Rwanda for 16 years and still wanted to conduct a politics based on ethnic differences, which was “unacceptable”. “She seems to be a concern everywhere but not in Rwanda. I don’t see too many of our citizens worrying about her rights.”

Asked about the crackdown on the press, the Foreign Minister, who herself spent 20 years in the US before returning to Rwanda, insisted that Mr Kagame was committed to democracy. “But democracy is a culture, it is not something that comes overnight”.

[…] Mr Kagame’s Tutsi-led Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) has controlled the country since it invaded and ended the genocide. It has missed few opportunities to remind the rest of the world of their failure to act in 1994. Related: Ingabire is bad news for Rwanda says Rwandan Foreign Affairs Minister Mushikiwabo […]

What a contradiction by Louise Mushikiwabo.

If she dismisses the right of Mrs Victoire Ingabire to contest elections because she has been outside the country for 16 years , using the same logic, what right does the RPF group have to claim the leadership over Rwanda after 30 years in exile?
She confirmed in her utterances that she has lived most of her life, at least 20 years, outside of Rwanda, what justifies her presence in government in Rwanda?

What right did the RPF, after 30 years in exile, have to invade a peaceful country Rwanda and go away with it? This was a crime against peace. Does Mushikiwabo know that the invasion took place when an agreement had been reached between the government of Rwanda, Uganda and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees to return home peacefully and that the RPF pre-empted the peaceful return by a military invasion because they wanted nothing short of state power.

Unlike the previous government of President Habyarimana which privileged orderly peaceful return of Tutsi refugees, the Uganda Government with the agreement of the Rwandan government packed the Hutu refugees in trucks like cattle or slaves and offloaded them in Rwanda.

The Rwandan government has been holding meetings with FDLR the so called terrorist group and has persuaded some of its top leadership to join the government, why would not Ingabire contact them to listen to their grievances and reasons for fighting and to propose her ideas of a peaceful retun?

Unless Mushikiwabo thinks like another group of Tutsi supremacists that Tutsi are a special group, with special intelligence.

In one other utterances she said that Rwandans have to be educated before they can be trusted with voting not based on ethnicity. This also repeated by Prosecutor Ngoga.

Her stand suggest that that she represents the extremist group within the Tutsi ethnic group that feel that Tutsi have the divine right to rule because they are a superior race. What is the difference with Hutu who would want to rule by merely being the majority.
This small Tutsi supremacist group cheats well meaning Tutsi and other people that it represents Tutsi interests. A Tutsi extremist is as bad as Hutu extremist and there are many Hutu and Tutsi democrats who must work together for a really democratic and just Rwanda. Mushikiwabo is not part of that group.

Louise Mushikiwabo extremist philosophy is contrary to Ingabire political programme which we read in FDU political programme that ” criminals are criminals whatever their ethnic affiliation and Rwandans must be united over political programmes and not over ethnic affiliation.
